Facebook“A Film Unfinished” finally opens and sheds light on Nazi propaganda

On August 18, Oscilloscope Pictures opens Yael Hersonski’s “A Film Unfinished” in New York at the Film Forum (209 W. Houston Street) and Lincoln Plaza Cinemas (1886 Broadway), on August 20th the documentary premieres in Los Angeles at The Laemmle Royal and in Encino, California at Laemmle Town Center. This will be followed by a national run of the film throughout the fall.
Film Forum welcomes the filmmaker in person on Thursday, August 19, and Saturday, August 21, for the 8:20 shows.

Since the end of Word War II, one copy of a 60-minute (unfinished) propaganda film, shot by the Nazis in the Warsaw Ghetto in May 1942, labeled simply “Ghetto,” sat undiscovered in an East German archive. “A Film Unfinished” presents the entire film, carefully noting fictionalized sequences and juxtaposes them with footage of the entirely different reality at the time. Based on actual court records, the frame recreates the interview between the cinematographer identified with the production and his interrogator, as performed by Rüdiger Vogler and Alexander Beyer, respectively.

Neben Fatih Akins “Soul Kitchen” (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1244668/), die in zwei New Yorker Kinoküchen 20 916 Dollar für IFC Films einkochte, erwiesen sich auch die beiden mit der MPAA im Clinch um die Freigabe erlegenen Filme als Kassenknüller für den Exklusivbereich.
„A Film Unfinished“ konnte in vier Einsätzen in New York (Film Forum, Lincoln Plaza Cinemas) und Los Angeles (Royal, Town Center) 34 060 Dollar einspielen. Zusammen mit den mittwochlichen Vorstarts in Manhattan sind es bereits 47 780 Dollar, die Oscilloscope Pictures bis zum landesweiten Start am 24. September noch weiter aufzubauen gedenkt.
In den anschließend weitreichend zitierten Morgennachrichten auf dem Fox Kanal hatte der vormalige New Yorker Bürgermeister und Filmfan Ed Koch „A Film Unfinished“ noch als besten der Saison bezeichnet, weil er zeigte „wie grausam berechnend und schlimm die Deutschen wirklich waren“.
„The Tillman Story“, die aufgrund rüder Sprache das R-Rating bekommen hatte, kassierte für die Weinstein Co. am Wochenende in ebensovielen Sälen 52 185 Dollar. Im Zentrum steht der Football-Star und freiwillige Soldat Pat Tillman, dessen Tod 2004 in Afghanistan vom Militär fälschlich dargestellt wurde. (AFu.)
