Our organization is part of a worldwide network of German Chambers Abroad (AHK). AHKs are closely connected to the Chambers of Industry and Commerce (IHKs) in Germany. The umbrella organization of the IHKs is the German Association of Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), which also coordinates and supports the AHKs www.ihk.de

Currently, we are looking for a “Director, Membership and Chamber Development”

The German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest, Inc. (GACCoM), located in downtown Chicago, is looking for a full-time Director, Membership and Chamber Development with 5+ years of work experience.

Job description:
The Director of Membership and Chamber Development’s role entails the following areas and responsibilities:

Membership: Be responsible for the overall development of membership and member services, including the expansion of new programs to attract new members to the Chamber and keep their interest and involvement once they are part of membership.

* Provide strategic direction and financial planning of the membership department as it relates to the Chamber’s strategic goals
* Serve as a liaison for the Chamber’s members and as a content expert in the area of membership
* Visit existing and new members at their sites, learning about their operations and business matters to better tailor membership services and events
* Oversee high scale events and their industry or transatlantic related content (Economic Forum, CEO Luncheons, Trade Fair Receptions, etc)
* Interact with high level executives, political and business delegations
* Identify and engage experts as guest speakers for specific events and conferences
* Develop and direct a program for membership and sponsor acquisition, directing ongoing membership activities, analyzing results and implementing new strategies and programs
* Report to GACCoM’s upper management and Board of Directors
* Supervise and develop staff, currently one full-time employee and one trainee
* Other tasks as directed
Chamber Development: This newly created position entails working on the strategic development of the Chamber, identifying upcoming business opportunities and working with partners to broaden the Chamber’s presence and areas of service.

* Identify new areas of growth and revenue for GACCoM by analyzing current market developments
* Partner with other departments to identify and develop sponsorship and new business opportunities
* Manage relationships with other partner organizations
* Follow current German American affairs to identify new topics and better understand business trends
* Cooperate with the local chambers in Germany (IHK) and other associations as well as communicate with our parent organization, the DIHK, on relevant chamber related topics

Job Requirements:

* 5+ years post-graduate work experience, preferably in membership, event management and business development
* Fluency in English and German, with excellent reading, writing and speaking skills in both languages is required
* Ideally work experience in the German chamber network (IHK/AHK) or closely linked partners/ associations
* Solid understanding of the U.S. and German markets and business cultures
* Excellent communication skills
* Very good presentation and public speaking skills in both English and German
* Self-motivated and highly dedicated, with strong networking skills
* Ability to lead in a team environment
* Willingness to travel domestically and abroad
* Events and major deadlines require a flexible work schedule and willingness to work extended hours
* Solid PC skills

Compensation:
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Benefits: Medical, dental, life, LTD, Pension and 401K
Vacation: 20 days plus all Federal holidays
