In 1919, the Staatliche Bauhaus was founded in Weimar, Germany, by architect Walter Gropius (picture).
Linked closely in time and in spirit to the Weimar Republic (1919-33), the revolutionary Bauhaus design philosophy sought to express a wholly new era in German society through designs that were to be at once socially conscious and free of roots in the past.
Dr. Gournay will explore the development and success behind the Bauhaus school and its international relevance in the fields of architecture and industrial design.
