German World author wins National Entertainment Journalism Award

Barbara Gasser
With great joy we announce that German World author Barbara Gasser won the 2010 National Entertainment Journalism Award in the category „Radio: News Story“. She was also nominated in the print category for best “Feature under 1000 words”.
Barbara Gasser is the first Germanspeaking journalist to receive this honor.
The jury statement reads as follows:
Winner: Barbara Gasser, KroneHit, Austria, “Court decision on Chris Brown’s assault on Rihanna”
Judges’ Comments: In a crisp delivery, foreign correspondent Barbara Gasser explains to her Austrian audience the blogger reaction in the United States to the sentence received by singer Chris Brown for beating up Rihanna. In this 54-second news report produced in the U.S., she deftly uses the Internet debate to show the widespread dismay over what many saw as a light sentence following Brown’s attack on the singer.
The National Entertainment Journalism Awards were founded in 2008 and recognize the finest work from US-based entertainment reporters and editors, and theater, film, and television critics in all media–print, radio, TV, and online. This includes international journalists working in a language other than English.
The National Entertainment Journalism Awards are hosted by the Los Angeles Press Club.
