Green Technology: Cooperation Perspectives for the US Midwest Regionand Northern Germany
The Chicago Hamburg Business Forum 2011 will be featuring delegation members from Hamburg, the city awarded by the European Commission as the “European Green Capital 2011″. The metropolitan region of Hamburg is home to 4.3 million inhabitants, with 1.8 million residing in the city center. Hamburg, the sister city of Chicago, is also a bustling industrial center, home to 3.600 industrial firms, as well as the third largest port in Europe. Within recent years, the renewable energy and green technology sectors in Hamburg have witnessed tremendous growth. Thus, Hamburg continues to be a model industrial metropolis by maintaining the connection between a livable city and a prosperous hub for trade and transportation.

The German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest (GACCoM) supports a Presentation and Reception: “The Future Office” presented by the Swiss-American Business Council and VITRA, Inc.

VITRA has been on the cutting edge when it comes to design and implementation of new office space. As office design continues to face new demands and trends, interior designers and “futurists” need to anticipate these changes in order to create efficient and productive working enviroments. Nigel Scott-Williams is one of those futurists and VITRA, a company based in Switzerland and Germany, implements and furnishes these new office design visions.

Mr. Scott – Williams will discuss how the workplace has evolved from the early 20th century when employment shifted from the farm and factory, to the corporate world. As well as present trends, where technology seems to be eliminating the need for physical space altogether. Therefore, what is the future of the office, its needs, designs and requirements?

German Tall Ship, Roald Amundsen, Started her Maiden Voyage to the Great Lakes
The German tall ship, Roald Amundsen, makes her maiden voyage on the Great Lakes on June 25 and 26 as part of the Great Lakes United TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® 2010, a rare event held every 3 to 4 years. They will be offering berths, or accommodations on board, to anyone looking for a unique summer adventure. The Roald Amundsen joins Europa, the Netherlands tall ship, and members of the fleet as they travel through all five lakes and two Canadian provinces before docking in Chicago for the final Tall Ships festival.
The Roald Amundsen offers the experience what it’s like to sleep in the galleys, feel the wind over the water and raise the sails as families can join the crew for a voyage of their preference, as they can range from four days to two weeks.
